BC Commission hold caste census in Telangana

Hyderabad: A meeting of the Telangana Backward Classes Commission was held on Wednesday at 3 pm at the Commission's office in Khairatabad, under the chairmanship of Chairman G. Niranjan. Commission members Rapolu Jayaprakash, Tirumalagiri Surendra, and Bala Lakshmi Rangu and Member Secretary, Bala Maya Devi, IAS, attended the meeting.
The Commission welcomed the State Government for accepting the suggestion made by commission to conduct a caste census by sending enumerators to every household for 50 days, and to provide an opportunity for those who were left out to register from February 16 to 28. The Commission reviewed the progress in implementation of the decisions taken in the last meeting held on February 5, 2025. Due to the model code of conduct being in force for the elections to the Legislative Council from the Graduate and Teacher constituencies, the field visits could not be conducted as planned. Therefore, it was decided to conduct the field visits by the end of March.
After that, a final decision will be taken on the issue of changing the names of some castes. The Commission initiated steps to collect the caste-wise details of employees working in all departments in the State.
Similarly, steps have been taken to collect caste-wise details of students from the School Education, Intermediate Education, Higher Education Departments, and Kaloji Narayana Rao Health University.
